The 2022/23 La Liga will be the 92nd season of the Spanish top flight. It will begin on the 12th of August 2022 and like other leagues, will be interrupted by the FIFA World Cup in November and December.

In this article, FootballOrbit presents you with the newly promoted La Liga teams for the 2022/23 season.

Almería

Almería return to La Liga by winning the Segunda División — on the final day of the season — after a 7-year absence.

Known fully as Unión Deportiva Almería, it is based in the city of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It was founded in 1989 (32 years ago).

The club is nicknamed as “Rojiblancos” (Red and Whites) and plays its home games at the 15,274 capacity Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.

The owner is Saudi billionaire, Turki Al-Sheikh, who also serves as the President while the manager is Rubi.

After its formation in 1989, Almería regularly competed in the lower divisions of Spanish football and secured its first promotion to the top flight in 2007/08 and impressively finished in 8th position that season.

Their manager then was Unai Emery while star striker Álvaro Negredo scored 13 goals.

In 2010/11, Almería reached the semifinals of the Copa del Rey for the first time ever, but got relegated that season — ending a 4-year stay in the top flight.

After two seasons in the 2nd division, it returned to La Liga in 2013, after defeating Girona FC in the play-off final. It managed to survive relegation in 2013/14, finishing 16th.

The club got relegated in 2014/15 after finishing 19th and started battling for survival against relegation to the 3rd tier.

On the 2nd of August 2019, Saudi Arabian billionaire, Turki Al-Sheikh, became the new owner of the club, replacing Alfonso García Gabarrón.

In June 2022, Almeria secured promotion to La Liga by winning the Segunda División title on the last day of the season. It returned to the top tier after spending 7-years in the 2nd division.

Almería’s best players are: Umar Sadiq, Largie Ramazani, Dyego Sousa, Samu Costa and Srđan Babić.

Real Valladolid

Real Valladolid won promotion to La Liga by finishing 2nd in the Segunda División. It agonisingly lost out to champions, Almería, on the last day of the season on goal difference, after both teams finished on the same points.

Valladolid return to the top flight after just a single year absence.

The club is based in the city of Valladolid, Castile & León, Spain. It was founded in 1928 (93 years ago).

It was nicknamed as “Pucela / Pucelanos” (Pucelle) and plays its home games at the 27,846 capacity José Zorrilla Stadium.

The club is owned by Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário de Lima — who also serves as the President — while the manager is Pacheta.

Real Valladolid was founded in 1928 and made its La Liga debut in 1948/49 (in which it became the first club from Castile and León to play in La Liga.

It is the most successful football club from the region by honours and history, with a total of 45 seasons in the top flight, 36 in the 2nd division and 10 in the 3rd division.

Historically, Valladolid is the 13th-best team in Spain by overall league points.

Two of its players have won the Pichichi Trophy (highest goalscorer in La Liga): Manuel Badenes and Jorge da Silva; and 10 were internationals with the Spain national football team.

In the 21st century, the club’s domestic performance follows a yo-yo club pattern, as it regularly gets promoted and relegated from La Liga.

On the 3rd of September 2018, it was announced that former Brazilian international footballer, Ronaldo Nazario de Lima, had become the majority shareholder after purchasing a 51% controlling stake in the club. As of April 2020, Ronaldo owned 82% of the club shares.

Valladolid had finished as runners-up in the Copa del Rey twice (1950 and 1989), won the defunct Copa de la Liga in 1984 and had won the Segunda División 3 times.

The club’s best finish in La Liga was 4th place, achieved in 1962/63. It has also competed in European competitions several times.

In the 2021/22 season, Valladolid returned to La Liga by sealing 2nd position in the league table (it finished on 81 points, tied on points with the 1st team), thus guaranteeing the team direct promotion to the top flight after a year absence.

Real Valladolid’s best players are: Roque Mesa, Nacho Martinez, Gonzalo Plata and Shon Weissman.
