Meet The Newly Promoted English Premier League Teams For The 2022/23 Season

Nothingham Forest return to the top flight after a 23-year absence. It finished 4th in the Championship and won the Play-offs final.

The 2021/22 English Premier League season ended with Manchester City emerging as champions, clinching the title on the final day of the season with a single point. Norwich City, Burnley and Watford got relegated from the top flight while Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are the newly promoted teams for the 2022/23 league season.

The 2022/23 English Premier League season will be the 31st since it was rebranded to the Premier League in 1991/92, while it will be 124th season in the top flight’s overall history.

The season will be an unusual one due to the fact that the FIFA World Cup will be played mid-season (from 21st of November to the 18th of December), which means the league will be suspended by matchday 16 and will resume on Boxing day, 26th December 2022.

Another major change is the fact that clubs will now be able to make up to five substitutions per game.

In this article, FootballOrbit presents you with the newly promoted EPL teams for the 2022/23 season.

Fulham

Fulham return to the top flight after just a single season absence by emerging as champions of the EFL Championship.

Like Norwich, Fulham regularly proves too superior to the other teams in the Championship but will look out of place in the EPL as they awkwardly move between the top flight and the 2nd division in recent seasons.

The club is based in Fulham, London and was founded in 1879 (143 years ago). It was Nicknamed as “The Cottagers”.

Fulham’s home ground is Craven Cottage which has a 19,359 capacity. The club is owned by Shahid Khan while Marco Silva is the manager.

Fulham has played in English football’s top division 27 times.

It’s highest position in the Premier League was a 7th-place finish in 2008/09 which secured qualification to the UEFA Europa League β€” where Fulham famously reached the final, but ultimately lost to Athletico Madrid.

The Cottagers reached their only FA Cup final in 1975, losing to West Ham United and won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2002.

Fulham’s fiercest rivals are fellow West London clubs; Chelsea, QPR and Brentford.

It’s best players are: Tosin Adarabioyo, Harrison Reed, Jean Michael Seri, Harry Wilson, Bobby Reid and Aleksander Mitrovic β€” who astonishingly scored 43 goals and provided 7 assists in just 44 matches in 2021/22.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth secured promotion to the Premier League by finishing 2nd in the Championship, it returns to the top flight after a two-year absence.

The club was founded in 1899 (123 years ago) and is based in Bournemouth, Dorset, England.

Its nickname is “The Cherries” and plays its home games at the 11,364 capacity Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth’s owner is Maxim Demin while Scott Parker is the manager.

The Cherries competed in the lower leagues until 2008 when Eddie Howe was appointed as manager. Under Howe’s tutelage, Bournemouth won three promotions in six years to secure a place in the top tier of English football for the first time in history.

This was achieved with a 2nd-place finish in League Two in 2009/10, another 2nd-place finish in League One in 2012/13 and a Championship title win in 2014/15. The club remained in the Premier League for 5 seasons before suffering relegation in 2020.

Bournemouth’s best finish in the EPL was a 9th-place finish in 2016/17.

On 3 May 2022, Bournemouth secured promotion to the Premier League by defeating Nottingham Forest 1–0 to finish as runners-up in the EFL Championship.

Bournemouth’s best players are: Philip Billing, Gary Cahill, Jaidon Anthony, Jefferson Lerma, Ryan Christie, Lewis Cook, Junior Stanislas and Dominic Solanke β€” who scored 29 goals and provided 7 assists in 46 games to propel the club back to the Premier League.

Bournemouth’s fiercest rivals is Southampton, their nearest neighbours. Followed by Portsmouth, Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest return to the top flight after a 23-year absence. The club finished 4th in the Championship to book a place in the Play-offs, which it won by defeating Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the final.

Nottingham Forest was founded in 1865 (157 years ago) and is based in Nottinghamshire, England.

The club was nicknamed as “The Reds” and plays its home matches at City Ground which has a 30,445 capacity. It is owned by Evangelos Marinakis while the manager is Steve Cooper.

Once upon a time, Nottingham Forest was among the best teams in England and Europe; it has won 1 English League title, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 1 Community Shield, 2 European Cups (now UEFA Champions League) and 1 UEFA Super Cup.

Its most successful period was under the management of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in the late 70s and early 80s, which included back-to-back wins in the European Cup (Champions League) in 1979 and 1980.

In Clough’s last decade at the club, the Reds won the 1989 and 1990 League Cups and lost the 1991 FA Cup final, before getting relegated from the Premier League in 1993.

After an immediate return, Forest finished 3rd in the Premier League in 1995, before the suffering relegations from the top flight again in 1997 and 1999.

The team returned to the Premier League after 23 years by winning the 2022 Championship play-off final against Huddersfield Town.

The club’s fiercest rivalry is with Derby County, with which it contests the East Midlands derby and competes for the Brian Clough Trophy. Forest also contests the Nottingham derby with city rivals Notts County; however, as County has generally played in lower leagues than its neighbours, fixtures between the two clubs have been rare in recent history. There is also a notable rivalry with Leicester City.

Nottingham Forest’s best players are: Joe Worrall, Brennan Johnson, Ryan Yates, Jack Colback, Scott Mckenna, Sam Surridge, Philip Zinckernagel, Lewis Grabban and James Garner β€” who is on loan from Manchester United.

Which among the 3 newly promoted teams do you think will perform well in the Premier League in 2022/23?
