Chelsea FC confirmed in the early hours of Saturday, 7th May 2022, that a £4.25 billion deal has been agreed for the sale of the club to Todd Boehly, which will see him succeed Roman Abramovich as the Blues’ owner.

Abramovich has been the club’s owner for the past 19 years, the Blues won 21 trophies under his ownership.

Boehly made the purchase alongside Clearlake Capital, Mark Walters, Jonathan Goldstein and Hansjoerg Wyss.

£2.5 billion of the money will be applied to purchase the club’s shares. Proceeds will be deposited into a frozen UK bank account with the intention to donate it 100 percent to charitable causes. A further £1.75 billion will be committed to the benefit of the club.
